I started my weight loss journey by joining Weight Watchers in August of 2007. By Christmas I had lost 25 pounds and was pretty happy with my results.
After the holiday season was done and I was supposed to be back on track, I was finding it hard to lose anymore. I continued to yo-yo up and down 5 pounds but never really losing anymore.
I knew then it was time to do more than just change my eating habits, I needed to start including exercise in my lifestyle change. I have known Derek since our high school days and was hesitant to go to a personal trainer like him but bit the bullet and went to talk to him about it. After just one conversation with him I knew he was the one who was going to be able to assist me in my lifestyle change with the added exercise. He made it so easy to just start seeing him twice a week and soon the results were very apparent. I started with Derek at the end of May 2008 and by the end of August 2008 I had managed to lose another 25 pounds, along with inches and was that much closer to my goal weight. Derek always made it easy to want workout, whether it was his witty charm or that oh so soothing singing voice, the workouts were always fun and flew by. Don't get me wrong there was pain but it was always a good pain with amazing results. The impact he has made in my life directly is beyond what I had initially expected or anticipated. For those of you who are hesitant or unsure, take the leap and you too will be able to obtain unbelievable results like I have with Derek's guidance.
Derek Flint may not be able to sing or dance but he knows how to bring the fitness back!! He matched my needs with multi-faceted workouts suited to my ability at the time. As I progressed and became more fit he upped the intensity and continued to push me to a higher level of fitness!
Great job Derek but please no more singing and dancing as I just can't keep my food down watching that.
I have always loved exercise but at certain points in my life have lost focus and have not made time for it. After having my second child and being a busy full time working mother, I had trouble losing the last 20 of the 50 pounds I gained during my second pregnancy. I constantly made excuses for myself and made myself feel better by making fun of how big I was. As summer approached I realized that I did not want to spend another summer wearing clothes in a size I was unhappy with and I wanted to increase my energy level and improve my mental well being. That was when I met Derek Flint.
Training with Derek has been amazing. From the first workout I knew that his style of training was what I had been looking for. I needed something different and something that would have me going home both exhausted and excited. The intense interval training has helped increase my cardiovascular endurance and has also helped me drop inches and pounds off my body. After 5 months I have lost 26 pounds and I've dropped 4 clothing sizes. The results have been shocking both to me and those close to me.
Derek is extremely motivating as his sense of humour helps to take my mind off of the fact that I'm doing exercises I never thought I'd be able to do. His workouts are always customized to what is going on in my life but they always kick my butt. I always leave motivated for my next workout whether it's with Derek or on my own. My own training has improved and I've relearned how to work out by myself so that I actually challenge myself. I look forward to continuing to train with Derek and to continue to reach the fitness goals I set for myself with his help.
I am a woman in my mid-40s. That age sounds scarier than it is, mostly because I am fitter & stronger now than I was in my teens, 20s, or 30s. And I have Derek to thank for that. I came to Derek early last winter after sustaining a knee injury at another gym. I needed intensive rehab and didn't want to loose my total body strength while my knee was healing. I am a challenging client because of balance issues due to a brain injury and I have joint hypermobile syndrome. Derek has risen to the challenge! He has carefully tracked our sessions and knows exactly how much I can do or should do. His workouts are challenging, yet fun and the hour flies by. I get a pretty good abdominal workout each session just from laughing with him.
I was challenged to lose 10 lbs in 4 weeks. I was on a mission and I couldn't have done it without Derek. I learned so much from him and every workout was a step closer to my goal. I superseded my goal and lost 15 lbs in those 4 weeks and continued to see Derek as I wanted to shape up even more for my wedding. Coming in to see him was the best thing I could have done for my mind and body! Every session was like an escape from the stress of wedding planning; an hour when I could focus on me. Derek knew exactly what areas I wanted to target and he tailored my sessions to target on sculpting and shaping those areas. I looked amazing on my wedding day and I owe a lot of that to Derek! Even after the wedding and crazy weight loss challenge, I still look forward to getting my ass kicked by Derek once a week.
What sets Derek apart from other trainers is his individualized approach to training. He really takes time to get to know his clients and tailors his sessions to meet their individual needs.

He is very knowledgeable and experienced in the field of kinesiology and is able to tailor exercises to target specific muscle groups. Derek knows how to sculpt a woman's body so that she looks lean and svelte instead of bulk

Derek 'Dekes' Flint is an amazing trainer, not only does he provide constant positive motivation, he has a great understanding of my physical needs and he connects with his clients on a more personal level.
When I started out with Derek, I was looking to improve my conditioning for hockey and my physical shape. At first I struggled with 3-5 simple chin-ups and within a few weeks I could already see great improvements in both my desired areas, by the end of it I was looking at 15-20 reps on the chin up bar. With the help of Derek, not only did I look great, I also felt amazing, it helped me reach my personal goals and then some. What made it that much better is that every time I went to train it wasn't like going to train with my drill sergeant, I was going to train with my friend.

My Training with Derek was one of the most important and beneficial experiences in my life. Not only did I find an unexpected friend in him, but he helped me achieve fitness goals, that I had thought, for a long time, impossible. When I started with Derek, I was out of shape, out of control in my eating, had major breathing problems, and had no motivation.
My first session was the most difficult challenge I had ever had to endure, but he said to me once you start climbing this mountain I won't let you fall down. From there, my body, eating, and life changed. In the span of 4 months of training with Derek, I was able to run for 20 minutes straight, no asthma attack included, and do a full body cardio work-out without feeling sick, or having any tired muscles. My results were phenomenal, I lost 24 pounds, 13 inches, a life-long fear of running, and my favourite pair of jeans fit, and are even a little too big!
I've been skating for 13 years now, and ever since I got asthma I would have an attack after every competitive skate with my synchronized skating team. In 2006 when my team won the National Gold Medal, I was too sick to hear our results, in 2008, our team won the National Bronze Medal, and I didn't cough once. I was perfectly fine, and felt like I could skate the program again. I thank Derek for getting me back on track; he has become a friend, a confident, a counsellor, and more importantly, the best trainer ever!
I've been training twice a week with Derek since February 2009.I'm in my mid-fifties and my goal was to lose weight plus stay strong and flexible so I can remain active as I age. To date I've lost nearly 40 pounds and have greatly improved physically and mentally .
I believe I wouldn't have achieved this without the training and support I've gotten from Derek. He's an excellent trainer, keeps the sessions varied, puts you at ease, makes you feel comfortable and confident you can do the workout. Before you know it you're actually having fun!
